Kelly Rossetti - Contemporary Abstract Artist
BIO
Kelly Rossetti b 1979, is a contemporary abstract and figurative painter working out of her studio in Bridgeport, CT. While primarily self-taught, she studied classical oil painting at a small Atelier in NYC where she credits getting her foundation and love of the figure. Kelly works in both Acrylic and Oil and often utilizes an array of mixed media to achieve depth, texture and marks.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I am deeply passionate about all aspects of painting. My fascination with paint- front the rich, buttery strokes of an oil stick to the fluid movements of acrylic mixed with mediums or water ignited when I left my corporate career in fashion. This transition marked the beginning of my exploration into a new world, driven by a desire to express myself beyond the constraints of traditional work environments and to discover untapped aspects of my creativity. As I wield the paintbrush and feel it glide across the canvas, I delve into a newfound freedom and the thrilling possibilities of artistic expression. My non-objective abstract work nearly always begins with play. Either through loose mark making that starts to inject a sense of life force energy into the painting, or by beginning with bold brushworks filled with color, my work consistency returns to two fundamental elements: line and color. Lines in my paintings vary—they can be delicate or assertive, clear or diffused, yet they always serve to unify and complete the composition. My use of color ranges from vivid to subtle, but one constant remains: veiled beneath multiple layers is a rich history of marks and moments of built-up paint leaving remnants of what came before.
My abstracted landscapes refrain from rigidly adhering to any fixed landscape, acknowledging the perpetual flux of nature. Through abstract strokes and textural elements, they capture the essence of the environment, distilling the depicted objects and surroundings to their core elements. In all of my work, I aim to evoke and capture emotions that resonate upon viewing. My goal is for each encounter with my work to reveal new details and nuances that may have escaped initial observation.
